Frequently Asked Questions
What is SubsidyLookup?
SubsidyLookup is a free database of USDA farm subsidy payments sourced from USASpending.gov. Search by recipient name, browse by state or county, or explore individual USDA programs like the Conservation Reserve Program, Agriculture Risk Coverage, and Dairy Margin Coverage.
Where does the farm subsidy data come from?
All data is sourced from USASpending.gov, the official U.S. federal spending transparency database. Financial assistance records are submitted by USDA agencies including the Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
How far back does the data go?
Subsidy records are available from fiscal year 2001 through the present. Individual recipient names are available for records through approximately 2019. For 2020 and later, individual names are redacted per federal privacy law, but county, state, program, and dollar amounts are complete.
Which USDA programs are included?
SubsidyLookup covers all USDA direct payment programs reported to USASpending.gov, including the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), Price Loss Coverage (PLC), Dairy Margin Coverage, Livestock Forage Disaster Program, Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, and many others.
Why are some recipients shown as redacted?
Starting around 2020, USDA began redacting individual recipient names in federal spending disclosures to comply with the Privacy Act. Payments to businesses, corporations, and other entities remain named. Geographic and program data is complete for all years.
